Course vision

We offer a unique creative opportunity, to further develop facilitation skills of those who wish to share the profound potential and effectiveness of the Cultural Emergence toolkit.

Our course vision is to create a community of Cultural Emergence facilitators, who will inspire transformation and contribute to the growth of a life sustaining culture.

This training invites you to celebrate your pathway, build confidence, and become a skilled and empowered facilitator and designer.

There are 2 main strands to your learning during this training.

The first strand is to develop your facilitation toolkit and confidence as a facilitator. You are given many opportunities to practice your facilitation in different contexts, building your confidence within the context of the safe space we co-create as a group. You will learn ways to create group cultures of collective intelligence and responsibility.

The second strand is to integrate the Cultural Emergence into your life and embed it into your thinking. You will use the toolkit to create a culture of personal leadership for yourself, allowing your genius to shine through. Throughout the year you will be building your Cultural Emergence portfolio of designs and personal reflection work.

These 2 strands will give you the tools, motivation and empowerment you need to share the Cultural Emergence toolkit within your communities.

The whole course is lively, interactive and inspirational, with creative teaching methods and accelerated learning techniques used throughout. The Cultural Emergence toolkit and philosophy is deeply embedded into the process and the course becomes a living example of a regenerative culture that nourishes and empowers.

The training is designed to challenge and awaken you to achieve your potential as an effective facilitator.  The collaboration of the group presents a enriching range of diversity and ideas. The held space is safe and secure, and encourages individual exploration. The group support is crucial and strong throughout the whole course.  The deep connection and safe space allows you to take risks with facilitation. An ideal place to play and explore.

One of the most important aspects of the FIT course is the continuing connection, keeping you moving and invigorated throughout the year. There is immeasurable value in the online monthly meetings, mentoring and coaching sessions over the year. It  allows you to hone your individual style and ideas for facilitation. It provides time to stretch and breathe and consider; it includes wise counseling from the course tutors and heartening, necessary support from your colleagues.

There are 3 parts to the training.

The first residential will be focused on community building, visioning, designing our pathway for the coming year, overcoming limits and building confidence.

The second part is the online year long programme composed of monthly online gatherings, peer to peer coaching sessions, 1:1 mentoring sessions with tutors. Alongside this you will be producing a portfolio with 3 designs and reflective work.

The third part of the training is when we reunite in person at the end of the year. We will celebrate our individual and collective journeys and present our portfolios. We will design our future pathways and next steps for our regenerative livelihoods.

Our year together will give you

  • A deep and embodied understanding and integration of the Cultural Emergence toolkit at many levels
  • Skills, confidence and practice as a Cultural Emergence facilitator, designer and activator
  • Career opportunities and a design for your right livelihood pathway
  • Connection, support and mentoring with highly experienced course tutors

For me the FiT course was a wonderful year! I learned so much because of the monthly (online) gatherings and the continuous attention to our growth as a facilitator. I loved the coaching sessions with peers and the inspiring personal mentoring sessions. They always pulled me a bit further on my pathway, and kept me open minded about possibilities. I really enjoyed the phases in our journey, and the insights they gave me. I have been put on a track with lots of tools, and now I feel well equipped to continue my track. Thank you very much!

Barbara

I now look to the future with bright hope and know that I have shifted onto a different path. I want to say thank you for providing the space and support so that I can seize opportunities that exist with both hands ready for the world ahead.

Lucy

Facilitators & Venue

As well as time spent at Applewood hosting and teaching courses and gardening on the land here, Looby leads a productive career as a pioneer of permaculture and Cultural Emergnece. Looby is author of People and Permaculture, 7 Ways to Think Differently and Strands of Infinity. People and Permaculture Is the first book globally to translate the use of permaculture principles and design for people based systems, widening the definition of permaculture and making it relevant and accessible to all. She is creator of the Design Web, a holistic design framework that has been used thousands of times globally for all sorts of personal and social designs.

Looby has been chair of the Permaculture Association Britain and is a senior diploma tutor.

Collaborating with Looby is a positive enriching experience. There is an authenticity which I appreciate and I feel grounded when working with them and the support they offer. Applewood facilitators encourage collaborative effective experiences: the areas outside and inside provide warmth, light, opportunity and laughter

The Venue
Applewood is a 20 acre smallholding, Waterloo Farm, recently acquired in the beautiful hills of North Herefordshire. Here, the owners, Designed Visions partners Chris Evans and Looby Macnamara, are developing a  permaculture demonstration and training centre. We feel that with permaculture, you need to see it to believe it, and then need to be able to learn it, and then acquire the resources (seeds, plants, books, friends and networks) to do it! The site includes woods, pasture, a lake, kitchen garden and an orchard of heritage apples. A converted barn and outbuildings provide indoor accommodation and the grounds a peaceful campsite.
